Juried Exhibition: Body Politic
BODY POLITIC: National Juried Exhibition August 2-10, 2017
Bromfield Gallery: 450 Harrison Ave Boston, MA. 02118 Reception Friday Aug 4, 6-8PM
This juried exhibition of New England artists features artwork across diverse media that's open to different interpretations.
Although the definition of "body politic" is an organized group of citizens, artists in the show have used this term as inspiration: work that addresses the body, politics or the intersection of the two. In these tumultuous times, many artists address contemporary culture and controversial issues regarding private space and the control of one's body.
The gallery hopes the exhibition will provoke, illuminate and challenge!
Mary Doering Artist Statement: I am honored to have my image "Because I Can" accepted in to Bromfield Gallery's juried show BODY POLITIC Joseph Campbell writes that "all myths deal with transformation of the consciousness of one form or another, either by trial or illuminating revelations. " My images represent common themes in women's lives. The photographs never ”tell” but hint at universal stories. I purposely leave the viewer with insufficient information, letting the images evoke an emotional response. Each photograph hovers between the fiction of reality and storytelling.
